This 23-year-old is one of the biggest stars in European basketball and it's little wonder taking into account her sparkling repertoire of skills, which has been evident for so many years, despite her still relatively tender age. With an insatiable appetite for blocking shots, spectacular defensive plays are never far away when Verameyenka is on the court. Meanwhile offensively, she possesses all of the skills you would expect in a high quality post player, but she can also move away from the block and make jump shots from range. With the addition of having an eye for a pass in the lane for her team-mates, it isn't just rebounding and that amazing shot blocking ability which makes her so dominant. Her influence since she arrived on the scene at a major tournament four years ago as a teenager has been huge. Her impact can be summarised by the fact that in the four major tournaments she has played in so far, she has only failed to average double-digits once, and that was when she only marginally missed out on the accomplishment at the 2008 Olympics. It really is incredible to think just how good Veremeyenka could potentially be as she continues to mature, something now evident as she becomes more vocal on court. As well as excelling at National Team level she has also been terrific for Nadezhda in EuroCup Women and also EuroLeague Women where she was handed an All Star berth back in 2009 while she was the leading shot blocker in the competition last season. As if to show she can do it all, she stepped outside to the perimeter at the FIBA World Championship Women last year to show she has now added range to her game. |
