Wisla Want To Put Shackles On Nadezhda

31.01.2011

Defense is the name of the game for Wisla Can-Pack Krakow as they prepare to host the opening game of their EuroLeague Eighth-Final play-off series against Nadezhda this week.

The Polish outfit finished second in Group A behind Cras Basket Taranto and one big reason why was the team's ability to shut down opponents.

Wisla's 62 points per game allowed was the third lowest in the EuroLeague Women this season.

They'll have their hands full against a talented and hot Nadezhda Orenburg side that has won four of its last five games in the EuroLeague and almost upset UMMC Ekaterinburg on their own floor in the Final of the Russian Cup.

"First of all, this is a very offensive team that scores a lot of points, so we need to focus on having a strong, aggressive defence - to stop not only Becky Hammon and Tina Charles," said guard Paulina Pawlak.

"There are many other great athletes, so you need to focus on individual and team defense at the same time."

Reis Brings The ‘D'

Ros Casares are hoping they have bolstered their interior defence with the signing of Portugal international Sonia Reis from Girona.

After joining the team last week, she said at her unveiling: " I am a player that is very much a fighter and defender.

"In all of my teams, I have been a leader on offense but the Ciudad Ros Casares has other offensive options, therefore, I have to play my best on defense."

Ros are at home to MKB Euroleasing Sopron on Wednesday night in their opening game on Wednesday.
