UMMC Ekaterinburg had to dig deep but defeated Nadezhda 79-73 on Friday to win the Russia Cup of Women again.

France international Sandrine Gruda poured in 18 points and Russia national team veterans Maria Stepanova and Olga Arteshina came up with big plays down the stretch as UMMC Ekaterinburg survived.

Nadezhda, who had edged Sparta&K M.R. Region in the Semi-Finals, came from behind in the fourth quarter and twice led by two but UMMC, who were playing in front of their own fans, didn't fold.

After Tina Charles scored for a 67-65 lead, Gruda answered with a basket for UMMC.

Oxana Zakalyuzhnaya powered her way up for two and a 69-67 Nadezhda advantage, only for Cappie Pondexter to reply with a bucket to knot the game again.

Arteshina then came up with a big defensive play, intercepting a pass by Elena Berseneva before being fouled.

She hit two free-throws before Stepanova scored four consecutive points, including a pair at the charity stripe after being fouled by Charles.

France national team point guard Celine Dumerc capped the run with a basket for a 77-69 lead and UMMC held on.

Charles finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds for Nadezhda while Liudmila Sapova contributed 15 and six boards.

Sparta&K defeated Dynamo-GUVD in the third-place game.
