MiZo Pecs Pile On Misery For Nadezhda

MiZo Pecs trailed late in the third quarter but held EuroLeague Women newcomers Nadezhda to just six points in the fourth quarter and prevailed in Russia, 58-46.

Nadezhda, who came close to winning their opening two games but fell to Wisla Can-Pack Krakow and Halcon Avenida, have now lost four games in a row in Group A while MiZo improved to 2-2.

Dalma Ivanyi, the visitors' veteran point guard, had 16 points, six assists and eight rebounds and also came up with an incredible seven steals.

Hungary international Anna Vajda weighed in with 15 points and six boards for the winners.

Nadezhda lost despite getting 10 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks from their Belarus international star Anastasiya Veremeenko.

MiZo took a 39-34 lead with four minutes remaining in the third quarter but Nadezhda replied with a 6-0 run.

Veremeenko, who will be one of the biggest names at next summer's EuroBasket Women in Latvia with Belarus, hit a jump shot and  was fouled on the next trip down the floor. She made two at the line and then Begona Garcia drilled a jump shot to cap the scoring spurt.

But Ivanyi answered with two free throws to finish the quarter and give MiZo a 41-40 lead before scoring the first points of the fourth quarter with a three-ball.

Kelly Mazzante followed with a jumper for a 46-40 advantage and MiZo looked to be on their way to victory.

Shameka Christon hit one of two at the line for with 6:21 left in the final period for Nadezhda's first points of the quarter to close the gap to four and they drew even closer at 48-45 on Tatiana Burik's shot from the arc.

The Hungarian giants scored the next six points, however, to take command for good.

MiZo out-rebounded Nadezhda 43-33. They won despite hitting just three of 16 (18.7%) from long range and 11 of 16 (68.7%) at the line.

Nadezhda also struggled shooting the ball, with Burik's make accounting for their only three-ball in 11 attempts (9%).

They were 11 of 17 (64.7%) at the charity stripe.
