New Signing Currie Wins EuroCup Women Player of the Week Award

01 March 2010

It was Monique Currie's first match in the 2010 EuroCup for Nadezhda and she showed that her addition to an already talented team was not a bad idea.

The 1.88m power forward did it all in the second leg of the Quarter-Final Round to hold off a determined AEL squad from Cyprus.

8. Monique Paulette Currie (LOTOS PKO BP)
Monique Currie has EuroLeague Women experience with Lotos Gdynia

She scored 30 point on 9/10 shooting from inside and 1/2 from the three point line.

Together with her 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals she was able to amass an efficiency of 41.

The Washington born Currie is not a rookie on the European stage.

After competing for her country at junior level she made her first appearance in Europe for Israeli side Elitzur Ramla in 2007.

After a stint with BC Moscow in 2008 she played for Polish giants Lotos Gdynia in the 2009 EuroLeague Women.

Currie has been playing for the Washington Msystics in the WNBA five years now, only once averaging less than 10 points per game.

Runners up in the Player of the Week race were, like last week, Gintare Petronyte of Sony Athinaikos with an efficiency rating of 32 and Cindy Lima for her old club K.V. Imperial AEL with 30.
