Anastasiya Verameyenka - EuroBasket Women 2015 Profile

The news about Verameyanka taking maternity leave last year handed a massive blow to the hopes of the Belarusian team grabbing a medal at the FIBA World Championship for Women. Without the "queen of blocks", as the center is usually called by fans, the paint was left relatively unprotected. What made things worse was the fact Belarus couldn't use their famous Veramyenka-Yelena Leuchanka ‘twin tower' option - their most powerful weapon under the basket. So they were unable to control the rebounds, score points from second-chance opportunities and pass to the centers as much they normally do. This summer, fortune seems to be turned back in favour of Belarus as the most adorable basketball player of the country is back to help the team to qualify for the Olympics, utilising her lethal shooting touch and intensive interior defence. Eager to share the leadership burden with the other long-serving veterans of the team, she will also help the tactical schemes of Coach Buyalski to work properly. She keeps a cool head in important games, so her presence on the floor will have a vital mental impact on her colleagues. Her unselfish approach is another factor that determines the high quality and importance of Verameyenka to the team.
