Lasma Jekabsone-Kartiba

Career: TTT Riga (Latvia-LSBL, 2002-03), Florida International (USA-NCAA, 2003-07)


This 22-year-old is a versatile centre who can play also at the power forward position. The daughter of a former Latvian volleyball star, Ainars Jekabsons, Jekabsone grew up in the small town of Strenci but has spent most of her time in Riga in order to hone her basketball skills.  Jekabsone was one of the key players for the U20 team that won bronze at the 2005 European Championship. She spent four years at Florida International University where she was the team’s starting center. At the end of last season she came back to her homeland and won a Latvian Championship with TTT Riga playing 15 minutes per game and averaging five rebounds per contest in the playoffs.
