Sergio Sánchez poured in 21 points and both Leo Mainoldi and Kirk Penny 17 apiece as Fuenlabrada beat Bemaco SPU Nitra in the EuroChallenge. The Spaniards, who had already clinched a place in the Last 16 but had no chance of overtaking EWE Baskets for first place in Group A, won 93-80 over Nitra to improve to 4-2. The visitors from Slovakia arrived at the Pabéllon Fernando Martin with just a single victory in five EuroChallenge games, a triumph claimed last week against Norrköping Dolphins. They led briefly against Fuenlabrada with Robert Vaden hitting a three-pointer to start proceedings. Sánchez made a lay-up and Lubos Barton followed with a dunk before Sánchez again scored on a drive for Fuenlabrada. The hosts also got a three-point play by Mouhamed Sene in opening up a 10-3 lead. Porfirio Fisac's side had their noses in front to stay, although Nitra didn't go away. Fuenlabrada had a 27-16 advantage by the end of the first quarter and were on top 53-44 at half-time. Nitra closed the gap to 60-54 with 3:54 to go in the third quarter on a dunk by Ater Majok and after two Mainoldi free-throws, Vaden hit a three-ball to make it 62-57. Fuenlabrada then pulled away and went in front by as many as 16 in the fourth quarter. |
