|Alexander Vasin takes over Sparta&K from Pokey Chatman|
There will be a sea change in policy at former four-time EuroLeague Women champions Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje after Alexander Vasin was handed the task of overseeing a new era which will place greater emphasis on home-grown players.
The club is scaling back on the external recruitment of players and will utilise the young talent it has been building for many years, with Vasin asked to bring through some of the players who have helped the Sparta&K second team to success and also took the junior team to the Russian title last season.
Vasin will be entrusted to take care of the transition, using his 25 years of experience in coaching both men and women's basketball at various levels.
The clubs' Executive Director, Anna Arkhipova von Kalmanovich, is particularly looking forward to supporting Vasin in further developing the young Russian players.
She explained, "For several years, we have worked fruitfully with the young pupils of our club and I think the time has come to trust a Russian specialist who can help this young team reach the next level.
"I have been observing coaching Alexander Vasin and have been impressed with his contribution in the results of all the teams he has worked with, especially in the case of Nadezhda.
"Alexander is a great teacher and motivator" she added.
"This is exactly what we need. All employees of Sparta&K and especially myself, will support and help him as much as possible."
Vasin himself expressed his hope for the future and stated,
"Sparta&K are a great team that is fully consistent with my coaching ambition.
"This work is very interesting and a responsibility, because I have to deal with young talented basketball players of Sparta&K who have grown to prominence in recent years.
"I am confident that together, we can form a competitive team that will put a decent start to new history for Sparta&K."
Vasin succeeds former incumbent Pokey Chatman, who spent six seasons in Vidnoje as an assistant and head coach.
