Spartak Moscow Region ended their triumphant Group A campaign with an 88-69 victory over USO Mondeville on Wednesday.

The Russian-based outfit finish the group phase with a 9-1 record which makes them easily the best team in the pool.

It was another outstanding performance from Tina Thompson that laid the foundations for the win.

She poured in 22 points and hauled down seven boards for the victors with stout support from Svetlana Abrosimova (15 points) and Tamika Whitmore (14).

Spartak seized the game in the closing stages of the third quarter when they posted seven unanswered points to lead 63-44 at the start of the fourth.

They had led by seven points at the halfway stage and it was their dominance in the third that proved essential.

The visitors from France had edged the first period 18-17 and extended the lead in the second to 20-17 before Agnieszka Bibrzycka's three pointer  evened it up.

Ieva Kublina's and Silvia Janostina's jump shots put USO 24-20 ahead but two buckets from Whitmore levelled things again.

Still USO fought and a basket from downtown from Pauline Jannault earned them a 27-24 lead before Thompson levelled, again from outside the paint.

Once Thompson drained another three-pointer to give Spartak the lead they held for the rest of the encounter.

Kublina managed a double-double for the losers with 18 points and 10 boards while Marie Ferdinand poured in 20 and Jannault contributed 10.

USO end the group phase with a 3-7 record.
