EuroCup Women: Fourth-Quarter Agony As Saarlouis Fall At Ibiza


Shannon Johnson made two free-throws with three seconds left to lift Ibiza Sport Island to a 70-69 come-from-behind triumph over Saarlouis Royals.

In the EuroCup Women Group D clash, the visitors from Germany opened up a 66-56 lead with 1:55 remaining in the third quarter.

The Royals scored just three points over the final 12 minutes of the game, however, and crashed to defeat after Johnson's late free-throws and a missed lay-up at the end by Tyresa Smith.

Johnson finished with 22 points and seven rebounds for Ibiza and Germany international Romy Bär scored a game-high 24 points in defeat.

In Sarajevo, Zeljeznicar NLB won a 72-68 nail-biter over BC Dnipro in Group K.

The hosts trailed 68-65 following two free-throws by Dnipro's Olga Lyashkova with 1:24 remaining.

Zeljeznicar, who got 25 points and 16 rebounds from Jelena Maksimovic, scored the last seven points of the game.

Baschet ICIM were 78-68 winners at MGS Apollon in Group I.

Suzana Milovanovic poured in 17 points and hauled in 12 rebounds for the visitors.

Another Greek club in action, Sony Athinaikos, rolled to a 105-54 victory over HATIS Yerevan.

USA international Candace Wiggins had 26 points for Athinaikos.

In Group E, Mann Filter Zaragoza cruised to a 69-46 triumph over Jolly JBS Sibenik.
