Ibiza Sport Island made sure Group D in the EuroCup Women will not be decided until the final week of Qualifying Round games after knocking off previously unbeaten CCC Polkowice 59-53 in Spain on Thursday. The result has left the Polish club on top with a 4-1 record but Saarlouis Royals and Ibiza are now 3-2. Saarlouis host Polkowice next week while Ibiza take on winless Nyon Basket. With the best eight third-place teams advancing to the next round, there is a very good chance that all three teams will progress. Ibiza led 50-41 with 6:51 to go but the Poles went on an 8-0 run capped by Anna Pietrzak's three-ball. Polkowice kept the game close until the final minute when Ibiza scored the last five points for a six-point triumph. Shannon Johnson had 20 points in the victory. In Group F, Candice Wiggins and Latoya Davis poured in 18 points apiece as Sony Athinaikos hammered Besiktas 81-60. Irena Vizbariene contributed 17 points for the Greeks, who improved to 4-1 and took over first place in Group F. Besiktas are 3-2 and in second place. In Group H, first-place K.V. Imperial AEL defeated Samsun Basketball, 53-40. Tanasha Wright finished with 18 points and eight rebounds for the Cypriot club, which improved to 4-1. Tamara Radocaj poured in 20 points as KK Hemofarm Stada prevailed 74-67 over Spartak Noginski in Group J. Alicia Gladden had 25 points and seven rebounds as Energa Torun won 87-62 in Group E over Jolly JBS Sibenik. |
