21 October 2003

Unics Kazan put on an intimidating performance in Le Havre this evening as they dismantled the home side 65:82.

A 13-22 run in the first quarter was extended to huge 29-48-lead at halftime for Unics. The defense of Kazan was very physical, which led to a poor French shooting percentage of only 38% - compared to 63% for their opponents from Russia.

After the first half, Saulius Stombergas already had 14 points and was strongly assisted by Chris Anstey and Lamarr Greer who scored 10 points each.

In the middle of the third quarter, the Russians led by 28 points. Kryapa had 10 points in the second half.

After Kazan had toned down their intenstiy and relaxed, Le Havre managed to close the gap a little bit. Gary Alexander (16 pts, 13 pts in second half) and Aymeric Jeanneau (13 points) especially helped the French to cut the deficit to 17 points. But it never looked as Le Havre could get back into the game.

The outstanding player of the game was the Lithuanian Saulius Stombergas, who scored 20 points and grabbed 6 boards

Game MVP: Saulius Stombergas
