|Other teams might be more experienced but Montenegro will make sure they're prepared better than anyone else, Nikola Pekovic warns opponents|
Nikola Pekovic has admitted Montenegro are likely to face their stiffest ever test at the EuroBasket this summer as they enter a major tournament for the first time since independence.
Montenegro have reeled off some impressive results since they started competing as an independent nation, but Pekovic recognises that a EuroBasket will be a very different proposition.
"At the beginning of preparations, I said we may not be experienced, but it is certain we will do everything we can to ensure nobody in Lithuania is better prepared than us," he said.
"At the EuroBasket, we will need to fight because we are rookies in major competitions and in every game we will need show winning is in our hearts and leave it all on the floor."
Montenegro are wrapping up a 10-day training camp in Zlatibor where they have focused on strength and conditioning.
Now they will move inside the gym to work with the basketball before a warm-up tournament in Ljubljana that also includes Slovenia, Croatia, F.Y.R. of Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.
"There will be plenty of games to prepare us for what we will face in Lithuania as we are playing against quality opposition and that will help us find the form we need," Pekovic added.
Montenegro will play in Group C at the EuroBasket, facing F.Y.R. of Macedonia, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and a qualifier.
"Right now we're just focusing on our own preparations, and later we will begin to think about the opponents," Pekovic said.
"The most important thing is that we are in the right way physically and then we can prepare tactically for the challenges that await us. Only then do we look at our opponents in the group."
