If you watched the previous FIBA Basketball World Cup, you will remember Marko Simonovic by two things - his great defence and the two free throws that he scored in the semi-final against France. With those two points, France's last glimmer of hope faded and Serbia secured their place in the gold medal game. Simonovic celebrated the two shots at the centre of the court with his hands held high in the air. It was not then without a little irony that he signed with French club Pau-Orthez for the past season, averaging 13.4 points per game. Despite his club failing to reach the play-offs of the French Championship, Serbia head coach Aleksandar Djordjevic did not think twice about inviting the forward back to the Serbian national team ranks.
