UMMC Ekaterinburg broke open a close game midway through the second quarter en route to a 61-49 triumph over Fenerbahce.

Both sides entered the Group C showdown with two victories in their first three games, and it was the Russians who proved stronger in a game in which both sides struggled shooting the ball.

Suzy Batkovic (UMMC Ekaterinburg)
Suzy Batkovic finished with 19 points.
UMMC were 19 of 59 (32.2%) inside the arc and four of 10 (40%) from three-point range.

Fener were 12 of 36 (33.3%) from two-point range, and six of 24 (25%) on their three-balls.

Fenerbahce's chances did look good when Linda Frohlich's tap-in gave them a 16-15 advantage with 7:42 to go in the first half, but the game then turned decisively for the Russians.

Suzie Batkovic's lay-up 27 seconds later started a 14-0 run for UMMC Ekaterinburg.

Batkovic, who would finish with a game-high 19 points, had six in that spurt.

Fenerbahce did not help their cause in that surge as they committed turnovers, missed three-pointers and lay-ups and even worse, free throws.

With 2:31 to play in the first half, forward Saziye Karsli was fouled by Adia Barnes while attempting a three-pointer.

Karsli, a national team player who shone at EuroBasket 2005 for Turkey, went to the line with Fenerbahce trailing 23-16 and promptly missed all three attempts.

A half-minute later and Barnes drained a three to extend the UMMC advantage to 26-16.

Fenerbahce clawed their way back to 31-25 midway through the third quarter, but the wheels fell off for the visitors.

Batkovic scored again to spark a 12-0 run, and UMMC cantered home.

The Russians held a 45-37 advantage on the boards.

Fenerbahce, who were led by Cappie Pondexter's 15 points, also had shooting woes at the charity stripe where they were just seven of 13 (53.8%).
