Player of the Week Yolanda Griffith has reason to smile after 31 pts and 10 rbds
As the EuroLeague Women regular season ends one player stands out as having made her presence felt whenever she has hit the court. UMMC Ekaterinburg‘s Yolanda Griffith has dominated the inside game in Group A, not least during the final game against CariChieti. Griffith’s double double of 31 points and 10 rebounds, including 100% shooting from the field, lifted Ekaterinburg to a 87-74 win and the top position in the group. It also earns her Player of the Week honours.

Griffith currently leads the EuroLeague in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 21 points per game and grabbing almost 13 rebounds in 8 appearances. Only once has she scored less than 10 points (7 against Chieti in her first game). Yolanda was also a major factor in UMMC’s championship run last season when the Russian champions also took the European crown.

A EuroLeague veteran, Griffith first played for DJK Aschaffenburg in the 1997 season… and led the league in scoring and rebounding. She has also since played in Italy with Lavezzini Parma before coming to Ekaterinburg mid-way through their 2002-2003 EuroLeague campaign. The four-time WNBA All-Star is also widely tipped to suit up for Team USA this summer at the Olympic Games, despite having not yet made any commitment to USA Basketball. A gold medal in Athens, following on from that won in Sydney in 2000 would be a perfect end to the 2004 season, especially if she can lead Ekaterinburg to a repeat title in the EuroLeague as well.
