|17-year-old Kenan Sipahi kept his cool in the final seconds, as he made the game-winner for Tofas|
Kenan Sipahi sank a three-pointer on the buzzer as Tofas snatched a 93-90 win over Khimik in their EuroChallenge Group K opener.
Tofas had let slip a 15-point first-half lead as Khimik came back to lead late in the fourth quarter before Sipahi struck.
Tofas edged the early going and began to pull clear early in the second quarter, with an 11-2 run putting them up 38-23 on Inanc Koc's free throw.
Khimik quickly got the deficit back down to 10 but could not crack single figures until Suad Sehovic opened the third quarter with a three-pointer that made it 51-44.
They continued to chip away at the lead throughout the third quarter without managing to draw level, but then opened the fourth period with a jump shot from Stanislav Zavadskyi and a three from Sehovic that made it 71-70.
That set the tone for a tense final period as the lead swung this way and that. Khimik held a one-point lead going into the last 60 seconds before Koc hit a three to put Tofas up 90-88 with 19 seconds left.
Vernon Goodridge replied with a lay-up, but after Sipahi's shot dropped, there was no time for a Khimik response.
Steven Burtt led Tofas with 20 points while Can Altintig added 15 and Chinemelu Elonu 13.
Sehovic had 21 points for Khimik with nine rebounds, making 5-of-7 from three-point range, while Willie Deane had 19, Devoe Joseph 17 and Goodridge 13.
