|Sergiy Popov and Khimik held on for a thrilling one-point victory over Tartu Rock in opening round EuroChallenge action|
Suad Sehovic's late three-pointer and Sava Lesic's free throw with one second left secured Khimik a 77-76 victory at home over Tartu Rock in their Group D opener of the EuroChallenge.
Devoe Joseph and Lesic both led the way for the Ukrainian hosts with 13 points while Justin Ingram's 25 points was not enough for the guests from Estonia.
Khimik used an early 10-2 run for a 12-9 lead before Ingram and Kristo Saage nailed back-to-back triples to give the Estonian guests a 20-17 advantage. The game was knotted at 20-20 after 10 minutes.
A 7-0 Khimik run turned a four-point Tartu Rock lead into a 29-26 cushion for the hosts. But the guests used a 7-2 surge to close the first half and headed to the locker rooms ahead 44-38.
Khimik scored the first six points of the second half to even the game at 44-44. But Silver Leppik hit three times from downtown in the third quarter to give Tartu a 63-58 lead going into the final 10 minutes.
Joseph knocked down two triples to give Khimik a 69-67 advantage with Ingram answering with two layups for a 73-70 lead with a minute left to play. Joseph evened the contest with a layup and then assisted on Sehovic's three-pointer which gave Khimik a 76-73 lead with 13 seconds remaining. Saage turned over the ball for the guests with six seconds to play, allowing for Lesic to make one of two foul shots with one second left. After the miss of the second, Ingram threw in a long three-pointer at the buzzer.
