CEZ Nymburk blew it big time in their EuroCup defeat to Dynamo St Petersburg.
Nymburk, one of the surprise packages of the competition, had led throughout much of the contest against Dynamo and victory would have enhanced their chances of advancing to the last eight.
As it was, Dynamo, last year's FIBA Europe League winners, outscored them 30-16 in the final quarter en route to a 76-63 triumph to leave the Czech team with just two wins and three defeats.
The loss means Nymburk must go to Kyiv and win and hope that Fenerbahce beat Dynamo St Petersburg.
Should that happen, Fener would win the group with a 4-2 record, while Nymburk and Kyiv would each have 3-3 records.
Nymburk would advance by virtue of their sweep of the series with Kyiv.
Dynamo would end up in fourth at 2-4.
Even though Nymburk still have a chance of reaching the quarter-finals, Nymburk managing director Rudolf Simecek was stunned by the manner of their defeat to Dynamo.
"We lost the chance to win this game in the last quarter," he said.
"We did not handle the last five minutes well at all.
"A technical foul has been given to the home team five minutes before the end, while we scored two points from free throws when we could have had seven.
"We played very well for 35 minutes but we lost everything in the last five
minutes.
"We made too many mistakes in defence and lost many balls in that part of the game.
"Our players did not realise that every single point can be important at the end of the competition."
