Radoslav Rancik had 22 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, to fire Nymburk into Round II of the EuroCup on a winning note at the expense off Basket Swans Gmunden.
With the pressure already off for the Czech team following BC Khimki's triumph over Ironi Iscar Nahariya, a triumph which secured a place in the next phase of the competition for Nymburk, the visitors still fought valiantly against a team determined to win for the first time and prevailed 81-78.
Basket Swans had grabbed a 73-72 advantage with two minutes and 34 seconds remaining on a Gary Buchanan three-pointer, but Maurice Whitfield and Rancik hit the next two baskets to put Nymburk in front for good.
After Whitfield's lay-up, Deteri Mayes missed from the arc and Rancik rebounded before going to the other end and scoring with a lay-up.
A pair of Angelo Flanders free throws with 46 seconds to play gave the Austrian team hope, but forward Charles Mandic buried a three-pointer for Nymburk with 22 seconds to play for a 79-75 lead and the visitors held on.
