Mondeville Fall Short In Upset Bid

USO Mondeville played well for much of their game at Cras Basket Taranto but slumped to defeat in EuroLeague Women Group A on Thursday.

The 79-67 setback in Italy has left the French outfit with a 3-6 record and trailing Pécs 2010 for the all-important fourth place.

Pécs, who won earlier on Thursday night, must win at home against Taranto to be assured of reaching the play-offs because if they do not and Mondeville prevail at home over TTT Riga, the French side will take fourth place.

Lenae Williams had 18 points and Aurélie Bonnan 15 for Mondeville, who only trailed 56-55 late in the third quarter.

A Kathy Wambe jumper then started a 15-3 run for Taranto and they pulled away for a big triumph.

Taranto had already clinched first place in Group A.

They got 18 points from recent signing Sophia Young and 15 from France international Elodie Godin.
