A new-look Cras Basket Taranto romped to victory against Parma on Thursday night in Italy's top flight.
The Italian club, which decided to sign Sophia Young before Christmas and then part with center Brooke Smith in the new year, claimed a 79-60 triumph over Parma.
Young had 15 points on her Taranto debut but the star of the show was Megan Mahoney.
The high-scoring forward killed her former team Parma with 24 points.
Smith, meanwhile, will continue to play in the EuroLeague Women.
That's because her new residence is in Tarbes, France.
Tarbes will be hoping for a couple of big games from Smith in their last two Group C clashes against Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje and VICI Aistes.
The French champions, Galatasaray and VICI Aistes, all have 3-5 records.
Each team is battling for the fourth and final play-off spot in the group.
Cras Basket Taranto president Angelo Basile admitted it was a difficult decision to let Smith go.
"With regret, Cras deprives itself of a player with great character and a professional athlete, but the company has realized the transfer for unique technical reasons.
"We thank Brooke Smith for her deep commitment to Cras Basket Taranto and wish her the best luck the rest of her career, that she can obtain some satisfaction in a new team like Tarbes.
Smith was sad to depart Italy.
"I am sorry to leave a great team like Cras," she said.
"I spent some productive and enjoyable times here, thanks to the warmth of the club, staff and the team.
"I'm sorry if I have not offered the best of myself."
Smith averaged 8.6 points and 5.2 rebounds in Italy's top flight and 11.6 points and 7.8 rebounds in the EuroLeague.
