Marta Fernandez (Spain)
Marta Fernandez
Spanish internationals Marta Fernandez, Amaya Valdemoro and  Nuria Martinez have been selected in the Liga Femenina's "ideal starting five" along Hondarribia-Irún duo Polymnia Saregkou and Elena Tornikidu.

Fernandez, a slashing guard whose terrific performance in the bronze medal game at Eurobasket Women 2003 helped Spain fight back from a 20-point deficit to beat Poland and qualify for the Olympics, recently led Barcelona to a thrilling best-of-five series victory over Valdemoro's Ros Casares in the league championship.

The sister of men's Spanish international Rudy Fernandez, Marta averaged 18.4 points in the title series.

Martinez, a point guard, is a star with Perfumerias Avenida of Salamanca, and it was her game-high 21 points that fired the team to a come-from-behind overtime win over Mann Filter Zaragoza in the Copa de la Reina.

Polymnia Saregkou, a Greek international, and Tornikidu propelled Hondarribia-Irún into the semi-finals of the Liga Femenina play-offs where they were beaten by Ros Casares.
