In the marquee match-up of the night, Bourges maintained their undefeated record by beating previously unbeaten CSKA Samara 63-61.

CSKA’s Olga Arteshina’s attempt at a potential game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer missed as the French outfit moved into sole possession of first place in Group B.

Bourges somehow held on to beat last year’s silver medallists despite scoring just three points over the final 7:17 of the game.

Fortunately for Pierre Vincent’s side, CSKA could not generate enough offense to overcome a seven-point deficit.

Maria Stepanova was able to get CSKA within five, 62-57, with 4:36 to go.

Both teams came up empty over the next two and half minutes until Amaya Valdemoro hit a three with 1:57 remaining to get the Russian-based team to within 62-60.

After Cathy Melain misfired with 25 seconds to go which would have made it a two-possession game, CSKA had the ball for a potential final shot with the chance to tie or take the lead.

But Valdemoro’s bad pass with five seconds to go gave possession back to Bourges.

Vicky Hall made one of two free throws and then Bourges fouled Stepanova, who made one of two free throws to make the score 63-61.

Bourges left the door open for CSKA when Hall missed both of her free throws with one second to go, but Igor Grudin’s side could only muster a last second desperation three attempt from Arteshina that missed.

Bourges was able to take control of the game thanks their strong second quarter performance in which they outscored CSKA 23-8.

As a result, Bourges took a 36-24 lead into intermission and, despite making it interesting, Bourges would hold that advantage until the final buzzer.

Emmeline Ndongue scored nine of her team-high 15 points during the second quarter surge.

Ann Wauters had 16 points in a losing cause for CSKA.

The French giants join Spartak Moscow as the lone EuroLeague Women sides that are still undefeated on the season.
