Mizo Pecs recorded a narrow 71-69 win over CSKA Volgaburmash in a Group B EuroLeague Women game on Thursday.

The Hungarian side were indebted to American guard Vickie Johnson, who contributed 25 points in the success.

But Pecs did not have it all their own way, as their Russian opponents took a 15-12 lead in the early stages until a three-pointer from Nora Bujdoso hauled the Hungarians back into it and they saw out the first quarter 19-17.

Olga Arteshina, who was Volgaburmash's leading scorer with 23, contributed five points in the second period as the Russians then moved into a 33-29 lead at half-time.

But their joy was shortlived as the home side bounced back in style thanks to Johnson, who netted a trio of three-pointers in the third quarter.

And just as the game seemed to be heading into overtime, the Hungarians were handed two free shots with just seven seconds remaining.

Dalma Ivanyi dispatched the opportunity coolly to hand Pecs a vital victory.
