Leaders VBM-SGAU Samara claimed their seventh straight victory in Group A as they eased past USK Prague 89-71 on Wednesday.

Maria Stepanova and Amaya Valdemoro combined to score 40 points between them as the Samara-based giants piled more agony on the lowly Czechs.

Spanish forward Valdemoro grabbed a game-high 23 points to go with her five rebounds but Stepanova's contribution was arguably more emphatic.

The Russian center added 13 rebounds and two assists to her 17-point haul as the duo linked with deadly effect.

The visitors were far from toothless themselves, three of their players - Michaela Pavlickova, Sviatlana Volnaya and Janell Burse - claiming double-figure totals in the scoring charts.

But the game was lost for them by the end of the second quarter, by which time the home side had built up a 16-point cushion (49-33).

VBM-SGAU's lead extended to as much as 26 points by the fourth quarter before they eased off in the final five minutes.

The Russians, one of the favourites to win the tournament, remain top of the group with an 8-1 record while the beleaguered Czechs (1-8) face a battle to avoid finishing bottom of the table.
