Ros Casares are the champions of Spanish women's basketball after completing a three-game sweep of Barcelona in the Liga Femenina finals with a 64-52 triumph.

Amaya Valdemoro, Ros Casares' leader and also the talisman of Spain's Olympic team, was just three of 12 from the field but came to the fore when it mattered on Tuesday night, providing key points as the visitors built a decisive 47-36 third-quarter advantage.

The title success avenges the defeat which Ros Casares suffered at the hands of Barcelona in last year's final.

"Barcelona have had a great season, but we have been able to wipe away the bad memory from last season," said Valdemoro, who had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Ros Casares led 16-13 at the end of the first quarter, but Brazil international Erika Cristina De Souza, buoyed by the support of her mother and fellow Brazilian Anderson Varejao of Barcelona's men's team in the stands, came to life.

She played in the early stages as if she would carry Barca on her back to a famous win.

A basket by De Souza, who will play for Brazil at the Olympics, gave the hosts a 19-18 lead in the second quarter.

But the visitors proved to have too much on this occasion.

Valdemoro's Spanish international team-mate Marta Fernandez also shone in the game.

With brother Rudy in the stands - he plays for Spain's men's team - she had 10 points.

Trisha Fallon led the Ros Casares attack with 13 points and seven rebounds.

Barcelona's Isa Sanchez, a monster on the boards with 21 rebounds, said: "It is a real shame, but I don't think that the final 3-0 score reflects what has really happened in the play-offs.

"We can finish with our heads held high."
