Valenciennes made their EuroLeague Women intentions clear today in Samara, as they came up against the home side and the 3rd place finishers in last year’s FIBA Cup Women.

Both teams had a preview of their November meeting in Group B of the EuroLeague today and it was Valenciennes who landed the first blow, with a comprehensive 79-60 victory.

Similarly to Ekaterinburg, Valenciennes put on a fourth quarter clinic, outscoring their opponents 28-12 to take a comfortable win.

Valenciennes got a poor offensive performance from Belgian star Ann Wauters (5 points on 1/7 shooting), but Australian center Suzy Batkovic stepped up in Wauters‘ place to score 18 points and pull down 10 rebounds.

French guard Audrey Sauret also had shot badly (2/11) but redeemed herself from long distance (3/5 three-pointers) to score 16 points. American forward Allison Feaster top scored with 22 points.

Samara’s top stars all struggled from the floor, notably Maria Stepanova (3/12 – although she did pull down 16 rebounds), Kamila Vodickova (2/8), Olga Artechina (1/5) and Ilona Korstine (2/6). African forward Mwadi Mabika top scored with 16 points.
