Elina Babkina

Career: TTT Riga (Latvia-LSBL, 2004-07)

Elina is one of the brightest prospects in Latvian basketball. At just 18, the 1.72 meter point guard has yet to play with the senior National Team, but probably will be an important part of their plans for EuroBasket Women 2007. Very quick, with good shooting and passing skills, Babkina was a key member of the Latvian U20 team that won a bronze medal in the summer of 2005 at the European Championship. She averaged averaged 10.4 points per game in the competition. Last fall, she received a proposal from a Russia super club, but a serious knee injury put the brakes on her progress for more than a half season. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise as she spent the 2006-2007 season with her homeland’s strongest team, TTT Riga, and took part in the EuroCup Women competition for the first time.
