Chevakata are in the driving seat of their EuroCup Women Quarter-Final after winning the first leg of their tie at Arras on Thursday, 80-71.
The second leg will be played at Chevakata next week.
The visiting Russians trailed by as many as 13 points but fought back and moved in front, 51-50, with a 7-0 run late in the third quarter.
Loree Moore scored five of the points in that surge.
Arras took their final lead early in the fourth quarter when Joyce Cousseins made a lay-up for a 55-53 advantage.
Four straight points by Yuliya Kiseleva ignited a 9-0 Chevakata run that put the Russians in front, 62-55, and they had their noses in front to stay.
Olga Shuneykina's team ended up with a nine-point triumph in the leg.
Jessica Davenport's 17 points and Svetlana Makhlina's 16 led the way for Chevakata.
Pauline Akonga had 23 points and Nadezda Grishaeva 21 for Arras, the beaten finalists in last year's competition.
