BC Khimki are in the driving seat for a place in the quarter-finals of the EuroCup after beating Privatbank EKA AEL Lemesos in Group L action on Tuesday evening in Cyprus.

The Russian high-flyers got major contributions once again from their two South American stars, Ruben Wolkowisky of Argentina and Oscar Torres of Venezuela, in recording a 91-82 triumph.

Wolkowisky and Torres, who are expected to represent their countries at the FIBA World Championship in Japan this year, each had 18 points.

Khimki led 19-18 after the first quarter and extended that to 44-40 by half-time.

The visitors then took a stranglehold on the contest in the third quarter, outscoring EKA 27-19 in the frame to for a 71-59 advantage.

They held on in the fourth quarter for their third win in four games in Round II, while the hosts lost for the fourth successive time and now have no chance of progressing to the next phase of the competition.

The Cypriot team began the EuroCup in excellent fashion, winning their opening five games - good enough to reach Round II.

Nothing has gone right since their narrow defeat to Fenerbahce at the end off Round I, a game which began a five-match losing sequence.

Alexander Petrenko, Khimki's Russian international, also had a productive game with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Petrenko is averaging more than 14 points and almost six rebounds in the tournament.

Italian international Gianmarco Pozzecco contributed 12 points and seven assists for Khimki, who can clinch a quarter-final place next week at Azovmash.

If they fail to win that game, however, and DKV Joventut Badalona beat EKA in their game, then DKV will be able to leapfrog them in the standings when they face each other in the last week of Group L games.
