Russia: Khimki Edge Thriller

BC Khimki edged a nailbiting contest with Dynamo St Petersburg to go clear of their fellow Eurocup representative in the Superleague standings.

The game was decided in the final 60 seconds when Khimki made Dynamo pay from the free-throw line to win 71-69 and avenge their Final Four defeat by eventual winners Dynamo in last season’s Eurocup.

Khimki were indebted to Argentina international Ruben Wolkowisky, who claimed a game-high 20 points, while team-mate Alexandre Petrenko scored 15.

Belarus forward Vladimir Veremeenko was star man for the losing side, with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Khimki edged the opening two quarters and led 41-35 at the half, but the visitors hit back with a 15-2 run over the third interval to lead by four.

Khimki replied and with less than two minutes on the clock, the scores were tied at 68-68.
Wolkowisky and Melvin Buker put Khimki ahead before Petrenko secured the victory.

They are now 10-2, one game behind leaders CSKA Moscow, with Dynamo 9-3.
