BC Khimki 95 vs. UNICS 85

15.03.2005

A superb 4th-quarter performance by BC Khimki saw them loosen Unics Kazan's grip on the FIBA Europe League trophy.

Khimki's 38 final quarter points sparked a 95-85 victory in game one of their quarter-final play-off series, and 2004 champions Kazan face an uphill task if they want to defend their title.

Kazan have dominated Khimki in recent seasons, including 2 wins in this year's Russian Superleague.

After 3 quarters the visitors held a 7-point lead going into the final quarter (57-64). When they started the period with a 5-0 run to extend that advantage to 12 points, it looked as though it would be another win for Kazan.

But, Khimki managed to raise their game at just the right moment. By the 35 minute mark, they had tied the score at 74-74 and Kazan coach Stanislav Eremin was forced to take a timeout.

Two 3-pointers by Melvin Booker gave Khimki a 80-74 lead after the timeout. It was just the momentum that Khimki needed and they went on to win the game by 10 points.

Booker finished the game with 19 points on 5/7 3-point shooting (Khimki shot 14/30 three-pointers for the game) and Oscar Torres had 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Point guard Shammond Williams scored a game high 29 points for Kazan.
