Tartu Rock fans are jumping for joy on Wednesday morning after the club booked their place in the EuroCup Final Four with an 89-77 victory over Ural Great.
Rock's leading scorer in the EuroCup, George Tsintsadze poured in a season-high 25 points as Rock battled back from an 11-point deficit late in the third quarter to become the first Estonian team ever to reach the semi-finals of a European competition.
"This can be viewed as the biggest thing for Estonian clubs in recent years," said Karel Loide, General Secretary of Estonia's Basketball Federation, to FIBA Europe.
"In 1991, Kalev Tallinn was a champion of the Soviet Union but as for the European competitions, no Final Four spots or trophies."
Tartu Rock entered the EuroCup in the Elimination Round 2 and defeated BK Prostejov over two legs, 170-141.
They finished 5-1 in Group A to reach the quarter-finals, and then defeated Ural Great in three games to reach the Final Four.
There will be a Baltic flavor to this year's Final Four because Barons Riga also advanced on Tuesday with a 96-91 triumph over KK Zagreb.
Dexia Mons-Hainaut of Belgium and Proteas EKA AEL of Cyprus are also in the Final Four.
