Johnson Going Strong

03 December 2004

TS Wisla Can-Pack Krakow’s Shannon Johnson picks up week 5 EuroLeague Women MVP honours after an inspired away effort against MKB Euroleasing Sopron on Wednesday night.

Johnson poured in 18 points, stole 4 balls and dished 4 assists as the Polish side took a surprise 67-68 win over the Hungarians on their home turf.

For EuroLeague newcomers Krakow, the victory means an even record after 4 games and even brings them into line with defending champions USVO, also sitting on 2 wins and 2 losses.

Sopron, however, have now slipped from the top of Group A to take second position behind unbeaten Lietuvos Telekomas.

Johnson, who previously played in the EuroLeague in the 2002 season for Ros Casares Valencia, is so far proving her worth for the Polish vice-champions. The US Olympic Gold Medal Winner and WNBA All Star is averaging almost 13 points per game, while handing out 4.8 assists and taking 3 steals.
