No one took defeat in the final of the FIBA Europe League as hard as BC Kyiv's LaMarr Greer.

"My wife wouldn't talk to me for a week after the FIBA Europe defeat to Dynamo St Petersburg, because I wasn't happy," Greer said to PA International on Monday.
Losing two championships in one season would make me want to shoot myself.

It is not surprising, therefore, that the scoring machine is firmly focused on the Ukrainian Superleague play-off finals against Azovmash.

"I'm super competitive," Greer said.

"Losing two championships in one season would make me want to shoot myself.

"I've been telling everyone we're not losing two championships in one year."

Greer, a 1.96m guard who averaged almost 18 points a game in the FIBA Europe League this season, appears to be right.

Kyiv have won the opening two games in the best-of-five Superleague finals, including a 93-80 triumph on Sunday.

Greer, who poured in 18 points in the first half, said the team's commitment to defence has been making the difference so far.

"We're up 2-0," he said. "We're playing well so far. I think we're playing real good defence in the second half, and we've been playing at home so that helps a lot.

"I think it will be a different story in the next game, but our team plays well on the road.

"Azovmash's whole team is good, and we respect them, but we won there already this year so I think we'll be ready."

Some teams have struggled in the past to lift themselves for the domestic campaign after playing in a final four.

Dynamo St Petersburg, for example, followed up their famous Final Four triumph in Istanbul with a quarter-final defeat in the Russian play-offs.

Kyiv coach Renato Pasquali said after his team's 85-74 final defeat to Dynamo that it would be hard to re-energise his players.

"We were able to refocus," Greer said. "That's when experience comes in. Myself, Marcelo (Nicola) - we have a lot of guys with experience. After the FIBA Europe game, we took a couple of days off and then refocused."

There is no doubt that Kyiv will attempt to re-sign Greer for next season, and he will be in a favourable position should the team finish off Azovmash in the final.

"We're going to talk about it after the season," Greer said.
