Dynamo Moscow Region Hold Off Maroussi

Dynamo Moscow Region survived a furious fourth-quarter fightback to win 63-54 over Maroussi in Tuesday's EuroCup action.

The Russians prevailed for the second time in three Round II games and condemned the Greek outfit to their third defeat in Group J, leaving  them needing to win three straight to have a chance of progressing to the next phase of the competition.

Roderick Blakney, facing his former team, made a lay-up with 6:12 remaining to lift the Moscow Region side into a 56-46 lead and the victory looked to be heading the way of the home team.

But Donya Abrams knocked down a three-pointer and a lay-up, and Christoforos Stefanidis then stepped up and buried a shot from the arc to trim the deficit to 56-54 with 2:41 remaining in the contest.

Veteran Russian international Nikita Morgunov steadied Dynamo's nerves with a jump shot, and after misses for both teams and a Maroussi turnover, Blakney's lay-up and a three-pointer by Nikolai Padius put the result beyond doubt.

Maroussi's biggest lead in the game came early on when a Renaldas Seibutis basket made it 9-1.

Dynamo Moscow Region stormed back and ended up taking the lead for good on Joshua Davis' three-ball two minutes and 17 seconds into the third quarter, although the game was close until the end.

Abrams led all scorers with 18 points, while Davis paced the Russian team with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Dynamo did enjoy a big advantage on the boards, out-rebounding Maroussi 34-22.
