Akasvayu Girona coach Svetislav Pesic wrote another chapter to his legendary career by leading the Spanish outfit to EuroCup glory on Sunday.

Pesic moved to Girona in the summer from Lottomatica Roma and won the title in his very first season in thrilling fashion as his men prevailed 79-72 over Azovmash.

The win just adds to a glorious CV for Pesic, who led Germany and Yugoslavia to EuroBasket titles in 1993 and 2001 respectively. He also led Yugoslavia to the gold medal at the FIBA World Championship in 2002 in Indianapolis.

One year later, he guided Barcelona to an incredible ACB, Copa del Rey and Euroleague treble.

With Pesic in their corner, Akasvayu could be seen as strong favourites for Sunday's final, but it did not prove the case as their Ukrainian opponents put up a strong fight.

"No one believed me when I said ahead of this game that it was going to be a very difficult game," Pesic said.

"Azovmash played great basketball, but we played very well in the last minutes and we never lost confidence."

Nevertheless, Pesic's team came through to add one more medal to the coach's outstanding collection.

"This started as a dream," said Pesic.

"With good organisation throughout the entire club, this dream became reality tonight."

"it is always difficult to achieve something like this. It always requires hard work and getting through disapointments. But if you have people around you that believe in you, then success becomes possible."
