Akasvayu Girona and Estudiantes both suffered post-EuroCup hangovers on Wednesday night as they slumped to away defeats in the ACB, going down to Real Madrid and Gran Canaria Grupo Dunas respectively.

Akasvayu, who beat Azovmash to win the EuroCup title on Sunday, fell to an 83-72 loss at ACB leaders Madrid at the Palacio Vistalegre.

Charles Smith poured in 20 points while Felipe Reyes added 18 points and four rebounds for Madrid, who made it 23 wins out of 30 league games this season.

Fernando San Emeterio was the leading performer for fifth-placed Akasvayu with 16 points, two rebounds and three assists.

It was also a disappointing night for Estu, who saw their impressive ACB winning streak brought to a shuddering halt as they crashed to a 79-54 mauling at the hands of Gran Canaria.

Estu had won eight consecutive league matches since Mariano de Pablos replaced Pedro Martinez as coach, but they were no match for Gran Canaria in a one-sided encounter at the Centro Insular De Deportes.

Hosts Gran Canaria raced into a 26-16 lead after the first period, and extended that to 44-26 by half-time en route to a comfortable win.

Jimmie Hunter paced the victors with 16 points and three rebounds, while Will McDonald contributed 17 points to Estu's total.

The defeat means Estu remain outside the play-off spots in ninth place, and completes a miserable few days for the capital club following their back-to-back defeats in the EuroCup Final Four at the weekend.

In Wednesday's other ACB matches, Tau Ceramica stayed level-pegging with Madrid on 23-7 records after downing bottom club Bruesa GBC 82 71, while Pamesa Valencia saw off CB Granada 77-72 thanks in part to a 21-point haul from Vule Avdalovic.

Alta Gestion Fuenlabrada were also celebrating a victory after Andres Miso's 22-point contribution helped them beat Etosa Alicante 91-69.
