Akasvayu Girona supremo Josep Amat is relishing his club's role as hosts of the EuroCup Final Four.
Estudiantes - Girona's semi-final opponents - along with Virtus Bologna and Azovmash Mariupol are all taking part in the event.
Amat, the organiser and top shareholder of CB Girona, has seen his team dominate in Europe with just one defeat to Panionios in a thrilling quarter-final tie, while in Spain they are good bets to reach the ACB post-season.
He spoke to Diari de Girona ahead of the Final Four.
He said: "For Akasvayu and for CB Girona, this is an opportunity that doesn't come along often. This is a reward and our work done by the club has been recognised.
"The club has gone through difficult times, not only sporting but financial problems. (But) We have had an increase in capital, we are looking for a president. There have been changes done in order for the club to have a different projection."
The EuroCup Final Four is the culmination of months of hard work by Girona and all of the other clubs who took part in the competition.
"This is good for the club, for the city and the province and for Akasvayu represents a return to the effort that have been done in the last two years," Amat said.
"Just the fact of being able to play is enough to enjoy it.
"I think if we were to win the Cup, it should be lifted by everyone, including our fans that go to the pavilion. We have to applaud the fans' support for the team."
Girona will have to dig deep if they are to beat Estudiantes, one of the hottest teams in Spain.
The Madrid side has won eight straight in the ACB while Akasvayu have struggled of late, particularly at home. Svetislav Pesic and Co have suffered five consecutive home defeats, including an embarrassing loss last weekend against Pamesa Valencia who trailed by 18 points at the start of the final quarter but won.
"I am convinced the players have already forgotten about the defeat against Pamesa and are already thinking about the game against Estudiantes," Amat said.
"The semi-finals of this European competition is more important than losing a point at home in the ACB league.
"I am convinced this will be a party for all basketball fans, regardless of which teams play in the final."
Overall, it's been a terrific campaign for everyone associated with Girona, who are currently fifth in the domestic standings.
"Had we not had certain slips we could be second in the ACB," he said. "But there are still six games left to play in the regular season.
"I believe we are creating a team. We started the season with a new coach and new players and I believe we need a little bit of patience and enjoy what we have now, which is fantastic.."
