Akasvayu Girona carried their impressive EuroCup form into the ACB on Sunday, thrashing basement boys ViveMenorca 71-56 on the road.

Unbeaten in EuroCup, Akasvayu will have one eye on Tuesday's meeting with Greek side Panionios in the quarter-finals, but they appeared fully-focused as they over-powered Menorca.

Arriel McDonald led the way for the victors with a 16 points while Marc Gasol added 10.

Chris Moss had 15 points in vain for the hosts.

The win puts Akasvayu third in the ACB.

Fellow EuroCup participants Club Estudiantes also warmed up for their quarter-final with a win beating Etosa Alicante 90-81 as they prepare to face Dynamo Moscow Region this week.

William McDonald had 20 points to lead five players in double figures for the victors. ACB leaders Real Madrid suffered a surprise 77-74 defeat at the hands of struggling Grupo Capitol Valladolid.

The hosts clinched the match with a brilliant last quarter display, taking the final 10 minutes 22-13 to edge to victory.

Joseph Gomis paced the winners with 16 points, with Louis Bullock`s game-high 20-point haul not enough for Real, who see their advantage at the summit cut following Tau Ceramica`s win over Unicaja.

Tau romped to an amazing 85-56 win over the defending champions.

Croatian international Zoran Planinic keyed the win with 15 points.

The second-placed side took command in the first quarter, winning it 20 10, and did not look back. They went on to have the better of each of the remaining three periods to secure an emphatic victory.

Winterthur FC Barcelona and DKV Joventut kept up the pressure on the top three with wins to each improve to 14-9 for the season.

Fourth-placed Barca stormed to an impressive 86-72 triumph over Polaris World CB Murcia - Jaka Lakovic in superb form with 28 points - while 20 points from Rudy Fernandez helped fifth-spotted Joventut seal an 81-75 win at Lagun Aro Bilbao Basket.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Gran Canaria Grupo Dunas were 79-70 victors over CB Granada, Pamesa Valencia defeated Alta Gestion Fuenlabrada 75-68 and Caja San Fernando edged past Bruesa GBC 86-79.
