Only his peers and coaches can appreciate just how demanding is the role of a player like San Emeterio on the national team. The veteran winger was a leading figure in Baskonia, especially during the four-year stretch that he was selected by Spain, but every summer he had to put on the hat of the bench player who comes on to play a supporting role. San Emeterio adapted and excelled in that selfless mission, stating once that playing a few minutes of basketball with Spain is a far better summer activity than watching the team on TV while on holiday. A little known fact about San Emeterio is that in 2007, while at Girona, he set a European club competition record by hitting 10-of-11 triples in a EuroChallenge game against JDA Dijon. He will depart for pastures new after EuroBasket, as he has signed with Valencia Basket.
