France coach Vincent Collet has called Steed Tchicamboud in to his EuroBasket squad after the withdrawal of Antoine Diot due to injury.
Diot was forced to pull out with a back problem and Collet has selected the veteran Tchicamboud to take his place.
"We have taken time to reflect before making the choice of Steed Tchicamboud," Collet said. "It is important to replace Antoine who was a real playmaker in order to maintain the balance of our team identity.
"We are certain that Steed is physically ready and his profile is in keeping with what we need."
There had been speculation that Fabien Causeur or Abdoulaye M'Baye would get the call, but Collet explained why he looked elsewhere.
"It did not seem consistent for us to call on a player who had already pulled out with an injury (Causeur) while M'Baye's profile did not fit with our needs," he said.
"We must be cautious ahead of a competition like EuroBasket when it comes to an important position like playmaker, as we cannot afford to take a risk.
"We know that Steed does not know all of our plays, but we think we have enough time and that he can quickly integrate into the group."
Tchicamboud, 30, has 16 caps for France.
