German powers TSV 1880 Wasserburg saw their attempt for a miracle EuroCup Women comeback fall just short in a 67-65 loss at home to Croatians Gospic in Group F.

The four-time reigning DBBL champions trailed by 22 points midway through the second quarter but never gave up. They pulled to within two points twice in the final minute only to be unable to send the 2006 Croatian champions to the free-throw line because they had not committed enough team fouls.

Croatia national team guard Sandra Mandir scored 26 points - including the winning lay-up with 33 seconds left - and Marina Mazic collected 13 points and 16 rebounds for Gospic, who out-rebounded the Germans 47-32 and survived 24 turnovers.

Rebecca Thoresen had 17 points for Wasserburg, and Amanda Lassiter added 12 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.

In other games Nadezhda stormed to the top of Group K with a dominating 70-45 win over Belgians Novia Munalux Namur. Russian veteran star Elen Shakirova led the Russian side with 17 points while Belarus national team center Anastasiya Veremeenko chipped in 14 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.

In Group C, 2007 Israeli league finalists Electra Ramat-Hasharon grabbed an 84-66 road victory at Botas Spor, Deanna Jackson leading the way with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Chrissy Givens poured in 21 points in a losing cause for the Turks.

Ukraine finalists Kozachka-Zalk fought off a hard battle with Universite BC Neuchatel, winning 85-81 in Group E. Nataliya Sil'Yanova's 22 points paced five players in double figures for Kozachka-Zalk - Ukrainian champions from 2005 and 2006.

Cameo Hicks and 18-year-old Ukrainian talent Taisiia Bovykina both tallied 26 points for the Swiss champions from Neuchatel.

Betty Lennox's free throws with two seconds left gave Cyprus club K.V.Imperial AEL a 60-58 victory at BSC Dnipro of Ukraine in Group D. The 2004 WNBA champion Lennox paced all players with 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

In Group B, Monique Coker and Jacqueline Moore combined for 45 points, 20 rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks in Turkish side Pankup TED Koleji's 69-60 win at home over KK Hemofarm Vrsac.
