Azovmash’s Ricardo Powell knew his side was up against a big challenge entering their semi-final clash with Virtus Bologna.
That’s why Azovmash’s 74-73 win is all the more special.
"Everyone was saying that it was going to be Virtus in the final but we
played hard and we showed that we can play the game and that is what we will do on Sunday regardless of who we face,” Powell said.
After jumping out to a double-digit lead in the first half, it appeared Azovmash was in for a comfortable win.
But Virtus responded and took the lead in the second half.
Azovmash regained their composure just in time to come away with the win.
"We were up by 15 points then we let them get back in the game. We knew we were facing a good team and they could come back at any time but we did a really good job to held them off.
Powell scored 16 points in the win.
"I heard so much about the EuroCup,” he said.
“We just came here wanting to win and have fun.”
Based on the result in the semi-final, it is safe to say that Powell accomplished his goal.
