Tuborg Pilsener S.C. 90 vs. Azovmash 101

23 February 2005

Azovmash Mariupol will be more than satisfied with their Tuesday night trip to Tuborg Izmir in the FIBA Europe League play-offs. The Ukrainian champions came away with a valuable win and have the chance to close the series at home this Friday.

The game was not without controversy, courtesy of Azovmash center Art Long. Long is no stranger to drama and his near altercation with a fan threatened to overshadow the game.

As it turned out, calm was quickly restored and Long and Azovmash were inspired. The US center was the dominant figure in the game and he scored 32 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked 4 shots in the win.

After a low scoring first half, the visitors exploded for 63 points in the second 20 minutes. Rashawn Weathers (19 points), Lior Lubin (16 points and 10 rebounds) and Sandis Valters (14 points) all contributed to Long's mighty performance and Azovmash surged ahead in the 4th quarter to victory.
