Strong Start Propels Ural Great To Triumph Over Rostov

Fedor Likholitov and Jumaine Jones made sure Ural Great had the ideal start to play in the EuroChallenge Top 16 on Tuesday with virtuoso performances against Russian rivals Lokomotiv Rostov.

Likholitov had 25 points and 11 rebounds and Jones scored 10 and grabbed 10 boards in a 69-60 Group K triumph.

Ural Great dominated the boards, out-rebounding Rostov 50-31.

The Perm outfit stormed into a 9-0 lead and stayed in front the rest of the way although Rostov kept it close until the final quarter.

In the first half, the man who did most of the damage for Ural Great was Alexey Surovtsev.

He had 11 points as they went to the changing rooms on top 37-32.

Though he was quiet in the scoring department after the interval, he did hit one very important shot with 6:48 to go in the game.

Dramir Zibirov had just cut the deficit to 59-56 for Lokomotiv with a three-pointer when Surovtsev went to the other end and buried a jumper for a 61-56 lead.

That basket sparked a 10-0 run for the home that allowed them to seal victory.

Rawle Marshall, who recently parted with Serbian juggernauts Partizan Belgrade, and Szymon Szewczyk each scored 13 points for Rostov.

Vanja Plisnic had 11 rebounds to go with his six points for Ural Great.
