Lokomotiv Rostov ended their EuroChallenge Group C campaign with a 66-65 win but were pushed all the way by a Benetton Olympic team playing for pride.
Lokomotiv were already assured of second place and it was perhaps just as well as this would have been much too close for comfort were there anything riding on it.
Lokomotiv were up 51-43 when Dramir Zibirov sank a pair of free throws late in the third quarter, but they saw Benetton quickly whittle that lead down with a 7-0 run, and it stayed within two or three points the rest of the way.
Benetton tied the game, 63-63, on Vladimir Buscaglia's free-throws 1:51 from time, but Nikita Morgunov responded with a three-pointer.
Bruce Fields cut the gap back to one but there was no way back as Marcus Sloan missed the last shot of the game for Benetton.
Szymon Szewczyk led the Lokomotiv scorers with 19, while Maxim Krivosheev had 11 and Maxim Sheleketo 10.
Fields had 20 for Benetton, who also got 12 points from Dennis Harrison and 10 from Oliver Vogt.
Lokomotiv end the group stage with a 4-2 record while Benetton are last in the group at 1-5.
