Lokomotiv Rostov enjoyed a winning start to their EuroCup campaign, although they found it tough going against Atomeromu SE before finally claiming a 69-65 victory in Group C.
Lokomotiv were behind 56-54 going into the final quarter but a three pointer from Evangelos Sklavos put the visiting Russian side ahead 57 56, and they never again trailed in the remaining nine-and-a-half minutes.
The Russian side`s late dominance was in stark contrast to the start of the match, where they found themselves 20-6 adrift early on and then 31-19 down midway through the second period.
But with Kresimir Loncar showing the way, Lokomotiv fought back and managed to establish a 44-38 advantage in the third period before Atomeromu staged their own recovery.
Loncar finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds - both team-highs - for victorious Lokomotiv, who reached the quarter-finals of last season`s EuroCup before being swept aside by eventual winners DKV Joventut.
Sklavos, whose late triple proved the game-breaker for his side, added 14 points, six rebounds and two assists.
For the Hungarians Atomeromu, shooting guard Mark Walters poured in 23 points, Marcellus Sommerville added 15, while Laszlo Czigler scored only seven points but grabbed an impressive 14 rebounds.
